Work Experience
Year 10 Work Experience
Introduction
Work experience is an important part of the Year 10 careers programme. It gives students the opportunity to spend time in a real workplace, helping them understand the expectations of employers and the skills needed for future careers.
School work experience involves a short-term, unpaid placement that provides insight into different industries and roles, while helping students develop essential skills such as teamwork, communication and professional conduct.
Why work experience is important
Work experience supports students by:
Exploring different careers and workplaces
Developing key skills such as communication, punctuality and independence
Building confidence in a professional environment
Helping students make informed decisions about their future
Strengthening CVs, college applications and job prospects
Students are encouraged to:
Be proactive in searching for a placement
Speak to family, friends and contacts for opportunities
Approach employers in person, by phone or email
Consider a wide range of placements, even if not directly linked to a future career
All placement details and forms are completed through the My Journey portal.
