MFL
“And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began
speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability”
Overview
In the Modern Foreign Language department we aim to actively engage students in their lifelong learning of languages in exciting, innovative, creative ways empowering students to achieve the best they can.
It has never been more important to study a foreign language. 21st century technology means it is now far easier and cheaper to communicate with other countries, however there is a real gap in the skills market. Over the past few years not enough students in this country have studied a foreign language meaning that employers and universities are desperate to find people to fill that gap!
Curriculum Intent
Learning a foreign language is exciting and interesting! Language lessons are fun places to be, where students are actively encouraged to share their ideas, opinions and feelings. Spanish classes at Holy Family are not simply about just learning how to understand and speak a particular language but about appreciating and discovering how people in other countries act and feel. By developing curiosity and deepening understanding of both the world around them and their own language pupils will learn many skills which are useful in a wide range of future careers.
The MFL Department at Holy Family aims:
- To provide outstanding teaching and learning which has real-life communication at its heart
- To set high expectations for all students
- To ensure contemporary target language is studies and authentic learning resources support the linguistic development of our pupils
- To deepen pupil's understanding of the world around them so that they gain a greater appreciation of different cultures and ways of life
- To explore enrichment opportunities outside the curriculum to enhance pupils' enjoyment of foreign language learning
