Careers Programme
Careers, Advice and Guidance at Holy Family
Careers Education Information, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG) helps prepare young people in school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. CEIAG at Holy Family is provided through a variety of ways to engage all our students and includes face-to face interviews at key transition points and by student request, drop-in sessions, software packages, careers events and careers resources, to name a few.
We want to prepare all our young people for the world of work after education. All students from Year 7 upwards are encouraged to think about their career aspirations. They are made aware about careers through the curriculum, displays around school, website, VLE and drop-in sessions with the careers adviser in school. In Year 8 when students choose their GCSE options they are given opportunities to discuss their skills, qualities and long term goals and by the end of Year 11 students will have explored their future pathways, written CVs and applied for college/apprenticeships Post-16.
To help and support students in making the right decisions after they leave school, all Year 11 students are offered at least one Careers interview to provide them with guidance and support in finding the right progression route for them. In interview, students are given up to date information and receive guidance on application deadlines and completing application forms.
Students in Year 10 participate in careers enrichment during the summer term, this allows them to visit a local post-16 provider, attend a face to face careers interview, write a CV and attend a mock interview. In addition, in Years 10 & 11 local Post 16 providers, including apprenticeships, are invited to parent/carer evenings. Students in Year 9 receive informal CEIAG through their KS4 options choices and discrete face to face interviews and visits are arranged.
