Supporting Student Wellbeing Over the Summer Break
As we head into the summer holidays, we know this time of year can bring mixed feelings. While many young people look forward to a well-earned break, others may find the change in routine, time away from friends, and uncertainty about what’s next a little unsettling.
At school, students benefit from daily pastoral support, trusted adults and peer connections. During the long summer break, these can feel out of reach—especially when many community services also operate reduced hours.
That’s why it’s important to remind young people and families that support is still available.
🧠Kooth is still here
Kooth is a free, safe and anonymous online mental health service for young people. It remains open and accessible throughout the summer, offering:
1:1 text-based chats with counsellors
Peer support forums
Self-help resources
🌞 Self-Care Summer Toolkit
We also recommend exploring the Self-Care Summer Toolkit from Mentally Healthy Schools and Anna Freud, available here. It’s packed with practical activities and advice to help students:
Build healthy wellbeing habits
Navigate change and uncertainty
Reconnect with what brings them joy
Some great student resources include:
Dealing with Change – Lesson Plan
Wellbeing Activities – Being Kind to Yourself (British Red Cross)
Mindfulness Relaxation
Students are encouraged to take time for themselves this summer—to rest, reflect, and recharge.
Wishing all our students and families a restful and positive summer break. 💛
