Careers Programme
Careers, Advice and Guidance at Holy Family
Careers Education Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) prepares students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. CEIAG at Holy Family is provided through a variety of methods to engage all students including, face to face interviews at key transition points, open door drop-in sessions, networking activities with education providers and employers, Xello careers platform, visits to providers and work experience.
All students from Year 7 are encouraged to think about career aspirations annually. Students are encouraged to think about career sectors through curriculum activities, displays, PADLET resources, VLE and Assembly presentations. In Year 9, at GCSE option time, students will discuss their skills, qualities and long-term goals and have their first formal introduction to the School’s Careers Adviser. By the end of key stage 4, students are prepared for transition having completed C.V./Personal Statement, work experience, a mock interview and further education tasters.

Discrete activities to support students thinking about their career are included in the Personal Development Programme (PDP). However, students need to be developing their career aspirations while they are studying subjects.
The School’s CEIAG provision is regularly measured against the eight GATSBY Benchmarks, an established framework for good careers education that has been adopted as part of the Government’s Careers Strategy and statutory guidance for schools and colleges.
The fourth benchmark is ‘Linking Curriculum Learning to Careers’. Many studies have identified that students are more motivated if they appreciate the link between their current study and skills they may need in the future.
