THE AIMS OF THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT


These aims are reflected throughout the scheme of work and may not be measurable objectives:-

Help to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in design and technology;

Encourage pupils to consider the effects and implications if technological activity;

Develop capability in pupils through activities which involve a range of contexts, materials and processes, including industrial practises, and lead to practical results;

Develop the ability to investigate and identify needs and opportunities for technological activity;

Develop spatial abilities, including visual skills;

Develop aesthetic awareness in the context of function and fitness for purpose;

Develop pupil confidence to modify and improve products;

Provide opportunities for pupils to manage appropriate resources including the application of systems and controls;

Develop pupils critical faculties, enabling them to evaluate the results of design and technology activity and make informed judgements about the appropriateness of outcomes;

Encourage pupils to progressively address more complex and sophisticated design and technology problems.
